Brainstorm Board — Live Sticky Notes for Workshops

A brainstorm on paper has a hidden cost: somebody has to type up forty sticky notes that evening, and the handwriting on nine of them is unreadable. Brainstorm Board keeps the same open, fast feeling — everyone contributes at once, nobody waits for the marker — while the text arrives already typed and already yours to export.

The facilitator writes the question — "What stops us from reporting on time?" — and opens the board. Every phone shows the question and a text box; participants can post as many cards as they have ideas, and each card appears on the projector the moment it lands. Because everybody types in parallel, a room of thirty produces in four minutes what a round-the-table discussion would take half an hour to surface, and the quiet participants contribute as much as the loud ones.

Grouping is where the value appears. The trainer creates named themes — "data", "approvals", "connectivity" — and assigns each card to one by selecting that group from the dropdown on the card, with no dragging required on a laptop balanced on a lectern. The projector redraws the board as columns as the grouping happens, so the room watches its own scattered ideas resolve into three or four real problems it can act on.

For sensitive sessions — feedback about management, safeguarding concerns, anything where an unfiltered wall is a risk — switch moderation on. Each new card is then held until the facilitator approves it, and anything that should not be projected can be hidden without ever appearing on the big screen. When the workshop ends, the whole board downloads as a CSV with the group name against each card, ready to paste into the report.
